The questions it asks, in order

Built from how plumbing calls really go. Every question has a reason, and it skips anything the caller already said.

Quick mode (active leak, #1 call):

  1. "Thanks for calling business_name. Is water leaking right now?"
  2. "Do you know where your main water shutoff is?" If no: "It's usually where the water line comes in: basement wall, crawlspace, garage, or by the water heater. Some are at the meter by the street. Can you get to it safely?"
  3. "Is the water near any outlets, cords or the electrical panel?" If yes: "Please don't walk through that water. Stay out of that area."
  4. "Is the leak coming from a pipe, the water heater, a toilet, or not sure?"
  5. "What's the address?" (confirm in service area)
  6. "Best number for the plumber to text you?"
  7. "Our emergency rate is after_hours_fee. Want me to get on_call_name headed your way?"
  8. Read-back: "Leak at address, water's {off/still on}, callback phone. You'll get a text in a minute."

White Glove:

  • "That sounds stressful. Let's get the water stopped first, then I'll get you on the schedule."
  • "While you wait, it helps to move anything you care about off the floor and take a few photos for your records."
  • "Is anyone in the home who needs extra help, like an older family member or a baby?"
  • Full read-back including fee, arrival window, and what the tech will do first.

Calls it handles

  1. Active leak or burst pipe - wants someone now. Agent: safety + shutoff coaching, then books emergency slot or alerts on-call. Escalated.
  2. Clogged drain / toilet / main line backup - wants it cleared today. Agent asks: one fixture or several? Several fixtures or sewage in a tub/floor drain = main line, urgent. Books with job type "main line" vs "single fixture".
  3. No hot water / water heater leaking - Agent asks gas or electric, tank or tankless, age, leaking? Leaking tank = urgent. Books repair-or-replace visit.
  4. Gas smell (shops that do gas lines) - Safety script, 911/utility. Never booked as a normal appointment.
  5. Price shopping ("how much to...") - Gives service-call fee and any approved flat rates, explains price is confirmed on site. Books.
  6. Running toilet, dripping faucet, low pressure - Non-urgent. Books next regular slot.
  7. Estimate for install / remodel / repipe / tankless upgrade - Books estimate visit; texts photo-upload link if owner wants it.
  8. Sewer camera / pre-purchase inspection - Captures address, realtor/close date. Books.
  9. Existing job follow-up ("when's my tech coming", "the leak came back") - Looks up job; warranty callback flagged to owner.
  10. Landlord / property manager - Captures unit, tenant contact, PO/approval limit. Books.
  11. Frozen pipes (cold snaps) - Safe thawing guidance, books. Burst = item 1.

Safety comes first

Emergency: water actively flowing that the caller can't stop; sewage backing up into the home; water heater leaking; no water at all; gas smell; water near electrical; frozen pipe that has burst.

  • Gas smell: "Please leave the house now with everyone. Don't flip any switches, use the garage opener, or start a car. Once you're well away from the house, call 911 and the gas company's emergency line. Don't go back in until they say it's safe." Do not book; alert owner after. (Matches Indiana pipeline safety guidance.) Do not tell the caller to open windows.
  • Water near electrical: "Don't step into the water if outlets or cords are wet. Only shut off power at the panel if you can reach it from a dry spot."
  • Sewage: "Keep kids and pets away from it, and don't flush toilets or run water until we've looked at it." (Virginia Dept. of Health)
  • Frozen pipe: "Keep the faucet open. A hair dryer or heating pad is fine; please don't use a torch or any open flame." (Red Cross)
  • Carbon monoxide alarm (gas water heater): "Get everyone outside now and call 911 from outside." (CPSC)

Alerts: emergency jobs page the on-call plumber by SMS + call; if no acknowledgment in ack_minutes minutes, page the owner. Gas/CO calls send an FYI text to owner.

What it will never do

  • Never tell a caller to stay inside, search for, or fix a gas leak; never tell them to open windows
  • Never quote a price not on the onboarding sheet or promise a firm arrival time
  • Never say a repair is "covered by insurance" or "covered by warranty"; only the insurer/owner decides
  • Never take card numbers by voice; Stripe link only (PCI DSS)
  • Never send marketing texts without consent; honor STOP (TCPA)
  • Never deny being an AI; give recording notice where two-party consent applies
  • Never give code/permit rulings ("you don't need a permit")
